ArchitectMade | Mermaid by Hans Bølling
Hans Bølling's mermaid evokes thoughts of the famous Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale that most associate to Denmark. Designed in 1960, her carefully rounded shape and thoughtful lines offer a sense of serenity.
Mermaid combines sophistication and simplicity, key elements of Danish design. Her expressions can be altered by turning the head, fin, body, or arms. The lower body is made of oak wood, while the upper parts are made of maple wood.
As this piece is individually handmade, slight variations in wood patterns may occur.

Designer/Architect
Bølling’s work is known for its playfulness and wit. A passionate spirit whose products are inspired by creative diversity. In his early career he began crafting small figures from botanicals as gifts for family and friends. The precision and personality in his objects paved the way for success as he began to sell the wooden figures to stores and designing the now-famous Duck and Ducklings in the 1950's.
